JAMES W. BAXENDALE
Mr. Baxendale represents the second generation of family ownership and management at Missouri General Insurance, where he is President of the agency and Chairs its Board of Directors. He began his insurance career in 1980 and is a graduate of the School of Business at St. Louis University. In 1988, he attained the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter designation from the American Institute for Property and Liability Underwriters.
Mr. Baxendale has been an active member of the St. Louis Association of Independent Insurance Agents, serving as its president in 2004-05. He later served for six years as a regional director of the Missouri Association of Insurance Agents where he chaired The Leadership Committee from 2009-2011.
Mr. Baxendale has provided commercial Risk Management services to clients in areas as varied as manufacturing, hospitality, real estate management and development, religious institutions, and construction. In addition, he assists his clients with covering their personal insurance exposures.
Outside the insurance industry, Mr. Baxendale has been involved with the Alumni Association and Father’s Club at De Smet Jesuit High School. He has served on the Parish Council at Mary Queen of Peace Parish in his native Webster Groves, is a member of the Kirkwood Optimist Club and a Life Member of Optimist International. Jim is an avid fan of all sports-especially Cardinal baseball and college football. In his spare time he enjoys floating the rivers and streams of the Ozark National Scenic Riverways.
Doug is a 1980 DePauw University graduate with a B.A. in Economics. From DePauw, he went to New Orleans, Louisiana as a Commercial Lines Underwriter with Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company. His career with Bowersox started in 1982 and he has served on the Management Team since that time. Doug is currently President of Bowersox and runs the day to day operations of the agency.
In 1986, he completed the requirements necessary for the Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) designation. This designation signifies the attainment of a high level of professional education and the commitment to a course of continuing education.
Doug has been awarded several prestigious awards and held some very prominent positions in the insurance industry including:
- Awarded the 1993 Insurance Person of the Year Award by the Professional Independent Insurance Agents of St. Louis.
- Past President of the Independent Insurance Agents of St. Louis
- Past President of the Missouri Young Agents Committee.
- Currently serves on the Board of the Independent Insurance Agents of Missouri.
- Awarded the Missouri Outstanding Young Agent Award by the Independent Insurance Agents of Missouri.
- President of the Missouri Association of Insurance Agents 2012-13.
Doug continues to server the insurance industry with a commitment to education and involvement in associations striving to improve our industry’s service to the public.
Starting his career as an underwriter with St. Paul Fire and Marine, Mr. Greer has spent the past 30+ years in a number of technical and management positions within the insurance industry. Working with his son Heath, the Greer’s have a passion to see efficient use of resources, including the premium dollars of their clients. Experienced in a number of alternative risk financing models, clients are assured of employing the most current technologies and methods to transfer and manage their risks.
Known for his communication skills, Mr. Greer has successfully reduced the science of risk management and transfer into common vernacular and principles easily embraced by organizations of varied size and risk complexity.
Mr. Greer has served a number of civic organizations including President and Chairman of Lewis and Clark Habitat for Humanity, Vice Chairman of Collinsville Habitat for Humanity and Chairman of the 2nd District Madison County Central Committee. A lifetime resident of the area, Mr. Greer and his wife of many years, Pamela Reno Greer, enjoy their family which includes two sons and five grandchildren.
Mitch O’Brien has over 25 years experience as a president and commercial lines marketer. The training and experience gained as an underwriter for various insurance companies has given Mr. O’Brien the skills to negotiate excellent terms and conditions for a variety of clients. He has worked on accounts ranging from small business owners to commercial accounts with exposures nationwide and annual premiums up to $2,000,000.
Steve Willis has been in the insurance industry since 1989. He is currently the Vice President of Missouri General Insurance Agency, as well as a member of the Board. Steve has a strong team with expertise in both Commercial and Personal lines. He operates a truck, trailer and heavy equipment insurance program.
