Along with his brothers, Jim and Peter, Bill represents a second generation of insurance protection for clients dating back to 1949. Specializing in Commercial Risk, Personal Lines, Health and Benefits, Bill recognizes the importance of understanding each client, tailoring to their needs without compromising coverage and service.
A graduate of Christian Brothers College Prep and University of Missouri St. Louis, Bill currently serves as President of MAVERICKS (Missouri Agents Valuing Ethics, Responsibility, Integrity, Courage, Knowledge, and Service). Bill is a long time member and on the Board of Education at Mary Queen of Peace Parish in Webster Groves and happily married to his wife Patty. Bill is a twenty five year veteran of the Property and Casualty industry and brings an expertise in Workers’ Compensation along with significant experience in Contracting, Manufacturing, Distribution and the Human Services industries.
Along with his undergraduate degree from the University of Colorado, Bill has earned his Associate in Risk Management (ARM) degree and his Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) designation. Bill has also served on the Agent Advisory Council of Missouri’s largest writer of workers’ compensation insurance as well as participating with legislators to correct workers’ compensation legislation that was detrimental to Missouri’s business community.
Bill lives in West St. Louis County with his wife of over twenty-five years, Laura. They have two children, one of whom is currently on active duty in the US Navy assigned to the USS Nimitz.
Brian has served in the Property & Casualty Insurance Industry since 2002. He began his career as an Account Representative with Liberty Mutual Insurance Co in July of 2002. His degree is in Business Administration from Truman State University with a concentration in Management Information Systems. Between 2007 and 2009, Brian served as a Senior Property & Casualty Consultant for CBIZ Insurance Services in Creve Coeur, MO. He led the department which grew by 300% during his two year tenure with CBIZ.
Not satisfied with simply providing quotes, Brian quickly began working on increasing his insurance knowledge through further education. He earned an Associate in Risk Management (ARM) in 2004 through the Insurance Institute of America. In 2007, Brian received a Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) designation through The Society of Certified Insurance Counselors. Brian brings a depth of experience in insurance plan design and development for all industries and size groups. His specialty is analyzing policies and developing creative, cost-effective insurance packages and risk management techniques. He is a licensed Property and Casualty Insurance and Life and Health producer in the states of Missouri and Illinois and a licensed Surplus Lines Producer in the state of Missouri.
Chris staebell, CIC, TRS
Chris began his insurance career in 2007, and joined Missouri General shortly thereafter, in 2008. He has obtained his license to provide Property, Casualty, Life and Health insurance products. Over the past decade, Chris has focused his efforts on becoming an expert in the transportation industry. His clients range from single truck owner operators, up to large nationwide fleets of over 100 trucks. He has a passion for the trucking industry, and helping his clients navigate the nuances of their insurance needs, as well as the ever-changing governmental regulations that they face. Chris obtained his Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) designation in 2015, and also achieved the Transportation Risk Specialist (TRS) designation in 2016, which is held by fewer than 250 agents nationwide. Through the determination to master his craft, Chris has become a very valuable asset to his clients. He takes advantage of every opportunity to stay up to date on vital insurance topics through his membership with the following organizations: National Alliance for Insurance Education & Research, Motor Carrier Insurance Education Foundation. Missouri Trucking Association. Springfield Motor Carrier Association, and the American Trucking Association.
Craig Maer has been a producer with Missouri General Insurance Agency since 1988. Prior to joining Missouri General Insurance he was a claims adjuster with General Adjustment Bureau, An Allstate Agent & a Broker with Cervantes- Diversified & Associates. Mr. Maer provides coverage for Business Insurance Clients including Bonds, Personal Insurance Coverage and Employee Benefits.
Jeanine has been a Certified Insurance Counselor since 1982 which was attained by completing five exams and is maintaining by attending annual seminars. She has an insurance career, which began with Aetna Life and Casualty Company, in the Property and Marine Underwriting Departments. She worked fourteen years with agency service and marketing as an employee, after which to become one of the very first female general insurance producers in Missouri. She also has knowledge and experience to service all commercial or personal insurance, whether large or small.
In addition, Jeanine holds great interest in civic and political happenings with memberships in numerous organizations, such as Rotary, National Federation of Pachyderm Clubs, Beta Sigma Phi, with elected service in various leadership positions. Activities and volunteering in politics has led to position on the Missouri Association of Insurance.
Mr. Walsh began his insurance career working in a Cooperative Education program with Northwestern Mutual Life while an undergraduate at John Carroll University, in Cleveland Ohio. Upon his graduation in 1979, he returned to his native St. Louis, and has ben associated with the Missouri General Agency since its inception in 1981. Mr. Walsh has served the insurance needs of a varied clientele, ranging from large contracting, trucking, and manufacturing firms, to the needs of smaller businesses as well. He has worked with families to address their personal insurance needs.
In addition to his undergraduate work, Mr. Walsh has earned the Professional Designations of Accredited Advisor in Insurance, as well as Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) from the American Institute of Property and Liability Underwriters. Beyond the insurance industry, Mr. Walsh has served as President of the Parish Council of St. Gerard Majella Catholic Church, and President of the Alumni Board of Directors of St. Louis University High School.
Kelly graduated from Truman State and went on to graduate with honors from Mid America Paralegal Institute. She worked as a paralegal for many years in several different settings ranging from small law firms to large corporate settings. In 2000, she branched out to software acquisition and training for a large trust company. That position progressed to database management and then in 2008 Kelly transitioned back to the legal field managing the legal division for a cyber digital forensics firm.
Kelly joined Missouri General Insurance Agency in January of 2014 to assist with agency management software, IT and administration. In May of 2015 she was promoted to Operations Manager.
Kyle began his insurance career in 2002 and has since acquired a diverse array of clients. He works with accounts that have exposures throughout the United States and has grown a large book of Property based accounts. Kyle attended the University of Nebraska- Lincoln, holds both CLCS and CWCA designations, and is a graduate of the Hartford School of Insurance. Kyle is involved in many carrier focus groups, client seminars and continues his involvement in the community. Kyle works with clients on Insurance Consulting/Risk Management/and Employee Benefits.
He resides in Eureka Missouri with his wife Sonja, and sons Bryce and Briggs.
Matthew P. Reardon has been a broker at Missouri General Insurance Agency since 1989. Specializing in insurance for medical professionals, he is the insurance consultant to the St Louis Metropolitan Medical Society. He works with both personal and commercial lines including bonds. He has extensive training in the 65+ senior market. He is a graduate of St Louis University where he served as president of the finance club. He is involved in community organizations and serves as president of a local parks board. He is also a high school coach with 20 years of youth coaching experience.
Peter Baxendale joined Missouri General in September of 1989. A 1988 graduate of Rockhurst University, Peter has earned the professional designations of Charter Property and Casualty Underwriter and Certified Insurance Counselor. Peter and his wife, Mariette, have six boys. He is active in the Knight’s of Columbus Council at St. Clement of Rome Parish in Des Peres, serves on the board of Trustees of Our Little Haven, works as a leader in the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts of America, and is a former president of the DeSmet Jesuit High School Men’s Club.
Licensed in all lines of insurance, Peter enjoys working one on one with his commercial and personal lines clients to develop creative solutions for their individual insurance needs.

Stephen Appelbaum is a 2nd generation professional of the property and casualty insurance industry. Working side by side with his father Bill Appelbaum CPCU, Stephen merged their growing business with Missouri General in May 2011. Stephen has specific experience in risk management and insurance placement for commercial general contracting, street and road contracting, and large value property development. Stephen has also created a team of insurance professionals that focus on high net worth, high profile individuals including business owners and professional athletes nationwide.
Outside of the office, Stephen is happily married to his wife Liz. They reside in Sunset Hills with their children Will, and twins Izzy and Ike. He is involved in multiple charities and US Masters swimming.
Steve Gissy has spent his entire career in the Insurance Industry and Risk Management Consulting. After graduating from St. Louis University with a BS in Marketing he joined Liberty Mutual Insurance Company as a client representative and new business producer. After several years he joined Alexander and Alexander (Now AON) which served as his introduction to Risk Management Services. In 1982 he joined and later became a partner with Adrian N. Baker & Company. Since being deeply involved in serving clients' needs is the primary objective in his career, Steve determined joining Missouri General was best for the continuation of his career.
His rare level of expertise is perhaps only matched by his innate sense of client service. His clients ultimately become his partners. “Knowledge” is the Secret to Success. In Steve’s case Knowledge is defined as a deep understanding of his clients’ businesses and a seasoned experience in the art and science of Risk Transfer and Insurance Program development. These skills have been instrumental in many clients successfully surviving and thriving after suffering a significant loss occurrence.
Throughout his career, Tim has been dedicated to offering his clients first class service. Tim’s experience is varied, from starting several successful businesses since his youth to working with one of the largest and most prosperous companies in the United States. He enjoys working with individuals and business owners, specifically in the St. Louis area, to assist them in insurance planning and achieving their personal and business insurance goals. Tim continually builds his business around trust and strong relationships. Tim believes in, above all else, honesty and excellence in customer service.
Education is a priority for Tim. During his insurance career, he has earned the designation of Commercial Lines Coverage Specialist (CLCS) and has additional designations on the horizon. To better serve his customers, Tim continually seeks additional knowledge and self-improvement through mentorship and many hours of schooling each year.
Tim is very dedicated to the community. He enjoys volunteering with the United Way, St. Louis U High, Loyola University and several other member organizations. When Tim is not working with a client and the community he loves to spend his time with his young children Timothy Jr. and Katie and his wife, Kelly.
Mr. Arcese is an insurance veteran having spent 10 years with Lawton-Byrne-Brunner prior to joining Missouri General in 1984.
He is a graduate of St. Louis University’s meteorology program as well as their MBA program.
Jon began his insurance career in 1985 after graduating from the University of Missouri in 1984. With a mission of “service beyond satisfaction,” Jon has made a point to offer his time and expertise to not only large commercial accounts, but also to small businesses and personal lines accounts as well.
Jon earned his professional designation of “Certified Insurance Counselor” in 1995. Meeting a significant amount of continuing education requirements annually helps him to do the best possible job for his clients in these times of constant change.
Mr. Koelz currently has over 40 years experience in the insurance industry, including 4 in underwriting and the last 29 in insurance brokerage. Prior to joining Missouri General Insurance, he spent 14 years with international brokers Reed Stenhouse and Sedgwick. He has serviced accounts consisting of multi-location retail, heavy manufacturing, multi-state real estate development and management, hospitality management and development and large local architectural firm.
Mr. Koelz received his B.S. in Business Administration from Illinois State University and his MBA from Lindenwood University.
Mr. Simon helps his clients buy insurance, manage risk and protect what they have built for future generations. His unique experience with family-owned businesses has helped him understand the numerous challenges faced in building and protecting those business and family legacy, how to allocate insurance dollars properly and how to help avoid the landmines that could take it all down.
